Thick-And-Thin Yarn |
A novelty yarn of varying thickness. |
Thickener |
A substance used to increase the viscosity of a print paste or other fluid, in order to control its flow properties. Natural polymers (starch, alginates, etc.), chemical modifications thereof, synthetic polymers, emulsions, foams and clays can be used. |
Thin end |
A thread that differs in material, linear density, filament, twist, lustre, colour, or shade from adjacent normal threads. note.. In woven or warp-knitted fabrics the defect appears as a vertical line running warpway; in weft-knitted fabrics, as a horizontal stripe running across the fabric and repeated at regular intervals. |

Thornproof tweed |
A wool-type fabric produced from highly twisted yarns that are closely sett to give a firm, hard handle that is resistant to damage by thorns. Two-fold yarns consisting of differently coloured singles are commonly used. |
Thread |
1. A textile yarn in general. 2. The result of twisting together in one or more operations two or more single or folded yarns. 3. A component of silk yarn. It is the product of winding together without twist a number of baves A three-thread silk yarn is the result of folding three such products together. (See also silk, raw.) 4. To pass sliver, yarn or fabric over. under, or through any element. |

Thread Count |
1. The number of ends and picks per inch in a woven cloth. 2. The number of wales and courses per inch in a knit fabric. © 2001 Celanese Acetate LLC |

Thread guide |
An element which guides the yarn. |
Thread interlacing (weaving) |
The arrangement of the warp and weft over and under one another. note: The normal method of denoting an interlacing is to show the movement of a warp thread over and under weft threads thus:which indicates warp passing over three, under two, over one, and under two weft threads. It is sometimes more convenient to describe a weave in terms of weft interfacings, in which case, indicates the weft passing under three, over two, under one and over two warp threads. |

Thread Out |
See END OUT. |

Thread trimmer (sewing machine) |
A device fitted to a sewing machine which cuts the sewing thread(s) after completion of a run of stitches. A variety of different trimmers are available: for example, for lockstitch machines, where trimmers can cut either the upper or the lower thread or both, and for machines which produce a chain of stitches. |
Threaded-Roll Process |
A high-speed method developed by Celanese for converting crimped continuous filament tow into highly bulked uniformly spread webs of up to 108-inch widths. The webs are useful in a variety of products such as cigarette filters sleeping pillows and battings. |
Threadlines |
The fiber lines of a manufactured fiber in extrusion or subsequent processes. |
Threads per unit length (woven fabric) |
The number of weft yarns (picks) in a specified length of fabric. note 1.. The traditional unit of length has been the inch but the value is now expressed as 'threads/cni' although the actual count may be made over Icm, 2.5cm, 5cm, or 1 Ocm, according to the nature of the fabric. note 2: Counting may be carried out at the following stages of manufacture: (i) In the loom: The location of the count should be agreed. It is usually taken between the fell of the fabric and the take-up roller, with the fabric under weaving tension. (ii) Loomstate: The count is taken after the fabric has been removed front the loom and is relaxed from weaving tension, but before it is subjected to any further treatment that may modify its dimensions. (iii) Finished: The count is taken when no further processing in the piece is contemplated. |

Threads per unit width (woven fabric) |
The number of warp yarns (ends) in a specified width of fabric. note 1.. The traditional unit of length has been the inch but the value is now expressed as 'threads/cm' although the actual count may be made over 1 em, 2.5cm, 5cm, or 1 Octn, according to the nature of the fabric. note 2: Counting may be carried out as for threads per unit length (woven fabric). |
