Runner Length

In knitting the number of inches of yarn from a warp to make one rack of fabric.

Running marks

Long crease marks in dyedorfinished goods running approximately in the warp direction. They are caused during wet processing in the rope form and may be the result of
(i) the formation of creases along which abrasion or felting may occur, or
(ii) imperfect penetration or circulation of the processing liquors.

Running-on (weft knitting)

The operation of placing a series of loops on to points or needles on a loop-to-point or loop-toneedle basis, preparatory to further knitting, or to joining fabrics together by linking.

Russia braid

1. A narrow braid with two cores side by side, covered with fine yarns, which go backwards and forwards over one core and under the other as a continuous figure 8.
2. Two or more adjacent braids, interlaced to form stripes.

Russian cord

A colour-striped shirt or dress fabric in which cord stripes are produced by leno weaving. One end is made to cross a number of ends in an alternate crossed and open shed sequence.
