Retarding motion

A mechanism which makes the take-up motion inoperative for a defined period of time. (See also pick, dead.)

Retexturing

1. The passage of an already textured yarn through a further texturing process.
Note: The second texturing process may be the same type of process or different from the first texturing process.
2. A process for treating dry-cleaned garments to improve their handle.

Retractive force (textured yarn)

The tension in a textured yarn due to the formation of crimp in the filaments under specified conditions of crimp development.

Retting (flax)

The subjection of crop or deseeded straw to chemical or biological treatment to make fibre bundles more easily separable from the woody part of the stem. Flax is described as water-retted, dew-retted, or chemically-retted, etc., according to the process employed.

Reused wool

Wool rags and manufactured waste, torn up and reprocessed into fibres again, and used for producing shoddy or mungo yarns.

Reverse jacquard, weft-knitted

A rib-based fabric in which the design on the effect side is reversed on the other side by alternation of the two component threads between the two sides.

Reverse locknit, warp-knitted

A two-bar construction made with full-set threading. The front bar makes a 1x1 closed lap movement and the back bar a 2x1 closed lap movement in opposition.

Reverse loop

A knitted loop i-neshed through the previous loop towards the back of the fabric (away from the viewer).(sub Category of Knitted Loop)

Reverse toe (hosiery)

A form of toe in which the join between the toe and foot is on the underside of the foot.

Reverse welt

A roll welt in which the plain courses are intermeshed towards the reverse side of the fabric. This welt is used particularly for stockings with turnover tops.(sub category of welt (knitting))

Reverse-plated fabric, knitted

A plated knit construction in which the relationship of the two yarns is reversed in certain stitches within the same course to give a patterned or fancy effect.(sun category of plated fabric weft-knitted)

Reversible

Fabric that has pattern and appropriate finish on both sides, so that either side can be used as the face side.

Reversible Bonded Fabric

A bonded structure in which two face fabrics are bonded together so that the two sides may be used interchangeable. There are limitations to the fabrics that may be used because of increased fabric stiffness resulting from bonding.

Revolving Spinning Ring

A driven ring that rotates in the direction of the traveler on a ring spinning frame. Since both the ring and the yarn package turn when this ring system is used productivity is increased.

Rheological Properties
