Magazine creel

A creel for mounting two or more yarn packages per end, tied top to tail, from which the yarn is withdrawn over-end, to give end-continuity from successive packages.

Mail heald

1. An oval metal stamping (usually of steel or brass) containing a central eye and two holes for fixing cords.
2. A wire heald mail (known as an inset eye). This is an oval metal stamping containing a central eye. The mail is fixed (i.e., inset) by solder in a formed loop in the centre of the wire heald.

Making-up

The process of assembling garments or other products from their component parts. The finished product is said to be 'made-up'.
Note: Making-up implies sewing but it may also include cutting, other joining techniques, pressing and finishing operations. An example of the wider meaning is when a clothing factory, where all these activities are found, is referred to as a 'making-up unit'.

The core around which the impregnated filaments are placed to form a specified shape in composite manufacture.

Mangle

A machine consisting of two or more rollers (bowls) running in contact to form a nip (or nips) the purpose of which is to express liquid from textiles which pass through it.

Fibre obtained from Musa textilis, also known as 'abaca'. (See also hemp, true.)

Manufactured Fiber

A class name for various genera of fibers (including filaments) produced from fiber-forming substances which may be (1) polymers synthesized from chemical compounds e.g. acrylic nylon polyester polyethylene polyurethane and polyvinyl fibers; (2) modified or transformed natural polymers e.g. alginic and cellulose-based fibers such as acetates and rayons; and (3) minerals e.g. glasses. The term manufactured usually refers to all chemically produced fibers to distinguish them from the truly natural fibers such as cotton wool silk flax etc.

A woven narrow fabric similar to oakleaf braid, but with a mapleleaf pattern.

A yarn consisting of two or more single ends of different colours twisted together.

Two single, continuous-filament yarns, of different solid colours or dyeing properties (subsequently dyed) doubled together. (See also ingrain (filament yarn).)
