Kier

A large metal tank capable of being heated uniformly used for wet processing.

Kier boil

The process of prolonged boiling of cotton or flax materials with alkaline liquors in a large steel container known as a kier, either at or above atmospheric pressure (see open boil and pressure boil).

Kink

Kiss-roll applicator

A machine for the application of a low wet-pick up by a fabric passage at open-width in contact with a film of treatmit liquor on the upper surface of a rotating applicator roller (termed lickroll or kiss-roll) the lower part of which is submerged in the treatment liquor bath.

Knee Break-Out Test

A method to evaluate the performance of fabrics especially boys’ wear when subjected to abrasion stretch and impact forces under conditions which simulate ordinary wear at the knee.

Kneeing

An unstable condition arising in melt-spinning wherein the extrudate forms an inflexion on leaving the spinneret instead of drawing down directly from the orifice. The molten filament thus has a knee-like shape just below the orifice.

Knicker yarn

A yarn made on the woollen system and showing strongly contrasting spots on its surface that are made either by dropping in small balls of wool at the latter part of the carding process or by incorporating them in the blend and so setting the carding machine that these small lumps are not carded out.(Sub Category of Fancy Yarn)
