One US company is not downbeat about the Singapore economy.
Nextec, an American company which makes advanced textiles, opens its first
manufacturing facility outside the US in Singapore on Friday.
The company said most of the fabrics it uses come from Asia so setting up a
plant in Singapore makes economic sense.
The factory is the first part of the company's global strategy which will
include future plants in Japan and Europe.
The advanced fabrics it makes is part of an enormous industry worth some US$136
billion last year.
The technology it uses improves the water repellency and wind resistance of its
textile products.
